We’re delighted to be introducing to you Training Smart, Caecillian’s training division focused on upskilling our workforce.
After recognising a shortage of skills in the utilities industry, we decided to develop a dedicated in-house team to speed up the process of bringing new people into the industry and providing them with the right knowledge to be able to develop their careers.
This in-house team are now able to upskill our teams, allowing them to progress further.
Courses we deliver
- Abrasive wheels training – exploring the different types of wheels
- Face fit course – responsibilities of employers and employees, types of RPE, suitable RPE, inspection and maintenance,
- Manual handling training – what it is, identifying health problems for poor manual handling, what causes problems, checks required prior, correct techniques
- Plant and vehicle movement – legal requirements for Banksman, Dynamic risk assessment when marshalling a vehicle, areas of danger for reversing vehicles and correct signals to maneuverer a vehicle
Caecillian’s lead trainer, Pete Bowden, said: “I was interested in the lead trainer role as I wanted to pass on my experience and ensure the right information was given. I thought it was important to create a friendly, comfortable environment that makes it easier for people to learn in.
We have received great feedback off the operatives. It makes me very happy that some people who previously struggled with training and learning, have enjoyed it and been able to take up new skills.”

Caecillian training participant, Warren Griffiths, said: “It’s been really good as I don’t like taking part in courses usually but it was very real and useful. It doesn’t put anyone on the spot and creates a good space for learning”.

We’re excited to have the opportunity to educate and upskill in house, developing people within the industry. There is a real skills shortage in the industry, so it’s important to bring in new people and close the skills gap.
