Responding rapidly to locate and repair a leak on a 54-inch aqueduct while maintaining access to an operational fire station.

Following the discovery of a high-profile leak on a 54″ aqueduct within the grounds of a Manchester fire station, Caecillian was called upon to respond immediately. Our project team mobilised to site the very same day, deploying specialist personnel, plant and equipment before beginning trial excavations to locate the source of the leak.

With the aqueduct located approximately two metres below ground level, the repair required complex deep excavation works to a depth of four meters. Working alongside our supply chain partners, temporary works were designed and installed over a single weekend using steel sheeting and hydraulic frames. Once the leak was identified on a welded joint over 100 years old, a bespoke encapsulation collar was designed, fabricated and installed to complete the live repair safely and efficiently.

Rapid mobilisation and collaborative working enabled the leak to be repaired quickly while maintaining uninterrupted access to the operational fire station throughout the works. The speed of response and successful delivery received praise from both the client and the fire service, demonstrating the value of acting quickly without compromising safety or quality.
